2012 Mary Anne Chardo Johnson

chardo-johnsonWelcome to the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers (MAWL) website! MAWL has the distinction of being the first women’s bar association in the country.  Our past presidents and our members include many distinguished jurists as well as accomplished attorneys practicing in all areas of law.  It is an honor and privilege for me to serve as the 108th President of this prestigious organization!

MAWL’s mission continues to be “ to help women become lawyers and to help women lawyers become better lawyers”. We invite you to join us in our efforts to advance the role of women in the legal profession by becoming a member today!  Although we are the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers, we welcome all members of the legal profession and are proud to say that our membership has always included men as well as women.

We host many events throughout the year in an effort to provide networking and mentoring opportunities for our members as well as information that can help them in their careers. Our two signature events are our Annual Banquet in June and our Holiday Toast in December. At both the Annual Banquet and the Holiday Toast, the MAWL scholarship Committee proudly presents scholarships to deserving law students.

An integral part of the Annual Banquet program is MAWL’s honoring of a Distinguished Jurist.  This year we will be honoring Judge Amy Blake of The Essex County Probate and Family Court on June 6th at Spinelli’s in Lynnfield, MA.   In 2012, we honored First Justice Catherine P. Sabaitis, of The Plymouth County Probate and Family Court at the always memorable Lombardo’s in Randolph, MA.  Please visit our photo gallery to see pictures of this fabulous event! Hopefully you were there last year to honor Judge Sabaitis and we look forward to your joining us this year as we honor Judge Blake!

Our Holiday Toast is traditionally held at the beautiful College Club of Boston.  MAWL honors unsung heroes of the legal profession at this festive event and last year’s honorees were the hard working judicial secretaries of the Probate and Family Court.  Please browse our photo gallery to see some great photos of this outstanding event!

I invite you to browse our website, where you will find information about MAWL, our mission, and upcoming events. Become a member!

I look forward to seeing you at our meetings and events!
