The Carol DiMaiti Scholarship Award Presented to Tasha Buzzell At M.A.W.L's Anuual Holiday Toast
by Maria Luise, Esq.

Rosemary Eacmen, M.A.W.L. President-Elect at the Annual Holiday Toast
The Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers Scholarship Foundation presented the Carol DiMaiti Scholarship Award to Tasha Buzzell, a third year law student, at Suffolk Law School . Attorney Maria Luise, co-chair of the scholarship committee, presented the award to Ms. Buzzell at M.A.W.L.'s Annual Holiday Toast which was held at the College Club in Boston on December 15, 2005.

The circumstances of Carol DiMaiti's death in 1989 caused national headlines and brought the problem of domestic violence to the forefront. Since that time, Carol has been memorialized by M.A.W.L. through the annual presentation of a scholarship in her memory. This scholarship is offered to students entering their second and third year of law school and is based on financial need and academic achievements. This year's recipient, Ms. Buzzell, impressed the scholarship committee with her academic excellence and achievements. She has interned with the Volunteer Lawyer's Project in the Norfolk County Probate and Family Court as well as with the Southeastern Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation. Additionally, she was a shelter coordinator and family advocate for a battered women's shelter in Worcester . Ms. Buzzell's main objective is to continue public service work for families and children upon graduation.

Interestingly, Carol DiMaiti was the attorney for Ms. Buzzell's family; Ms. Buzzell actually met Carol on several occasions. Attorney Mary DiMaiti was in attendance to congratulate Ms. Buzzell on behalf of the DiMaiti family.

The DiMaiti scholarship fund is chaired by Attorneys Juliane Balliro and Maria Luise. This particular fund is maintained solely through voluntary contributions made throughout the year as well as various fundraising events.
